Prism Wellness
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAP) is an innovative and promising approach to mental health treatment. For individuals dealing with depression, PTSD, or severe anxiety, KAP offers a new path to relief when traditional treatments may not be effective. At Prism Wellness in Cary, NC, our team of trained therapists partners with medical professionals to support clients seeking the benefits of this cutting-edge therapy.
Ketamine, a medication traditionally used as an anesthetic, has been found to be effective for off-label use in treating mental health conditions in low doses. When used alongside psychotherapy, ketamine has shown rapid improvements in symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. This combination is known as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and it works by using ketamine’s ability to promote neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new connections– while users process difficult emotions in a new mental state.
At Prism Wellness, we provide a structured and supportive environment for clients undergoing Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at our office in Cary, NC. Clients are required to work with a local medical professional to complete all necessary medical screening and assessment. Therapists also only work with clients who are utilizing Ketamine with a local medication provider and do not advocate for or permit the use of Ketamine in any other environment. Once a person has been medically assessed, diagnosed, and prescribed Ketamine for the treatment of a mental health disorder, Prism Wellness therapists may assist through the following:
Before the ketamine session, clients participate in preparatory sessions with a trained therapist. These sessions are vital for ensuring comfort and understanding of what may occur from a mental health perspective. During preparation, clients will:
During the ketamine session, our therapists offer supportive presence at the prescriber’s office. Clients are encouraged to have an “Inner Directed Approach,” meaning they focus on their own insights rather than being guided by questions. The therapist may:
After the ketamine experience, integration sessions are critical to help clients reflect on the insights gained and apply them to everyday life. This phase helps sustain long-term benefits by:

Yes, ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and has been safely used for many years. When used in lower doses under medical supervision, it has proven to be safe for treating mental health conditions. Actually, in 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration approved a ketamine nasal spray called Spravato for use in treating depression.
Each session can last between 60-120 minutes. However, the entire process, including preparation and integration, spans multiple sessions to ensure long-term effectiveness.
